History of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has a relatively young history compared to many other races on the F1 calendar. The first race was held in 2009, making it the first Grand Prix to be held in the United Arab Emirates.
In 2010, Abu Dhabi became the scene of a historic championship, as Vettel claimed his first world title in a dramatic finale that left four drivers in contention for the title.
Lewis Hamilton is the most successful driver in Abu Dhabi with five wins. Max Verstappen has won three times, including the highly controversial 2021 finale, when a late safety car decision led to one of the most talked about championship decisions in F1 history.

Yas Marina Circuit
The Yas Marina Circuit is a modern 5.281 km long circuit designed by Hermann Tilke, located on the man-made Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The track features 16 corners after its redesign in 2021 and is one of the newer generation of F1 circuits with extensive safety measures and facilities.
A special feature is that the race starts in daylight and finishes under the 4,500 light poles that illuminate the entire circuit, making for a spectacular twilight race. The blue run-off areas fit perfectly with the marina setting and make mistakes immediately visible.
In terms of accessibility, Yas Marina is very accessible. It is approximately 30 minutes drive from Abu Dhabi city centre and 45 minutes from Dubai. During the race weekend, there are dedicated shuttle services from strategic points in Abu Dhabi and major hotels. There is ample parking on Yas Island and many visitors opt for taxis or ridesharing services.
About Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi offers F1 visitors a perfect mix of racing, luxury and culture. The city transforms during the Grand Prix weekend with special events and entertainment, but also leaves time to explore iconic landmarks.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a must-visit, even during the busy race weekend. This breathtaking white mosque with 82 domes, hand-knotted carpets and crystal chandeliers is open to non-Muslim visitors. The mosque is spectacularly lit at night, making it the perfect place for a visit after the race activities.
A unique aspect of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is the famous after-race concerts at the circuit itself. Every night of the race weekend, world-famous artists perform at the purpose-built Etihad Park next to the circuit. Past performers have included Beyoncé, The Weeknd, Eminem, Post Malone and Foo Fighters, and concert tickets are included in the F1 ticket.
On Yas Island itself, where the circuit is located, theme parks such as Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World and Yas Waterworld are directly accessible. Many F1 fans plan extra days to visit these theme parks after the race weekend, with Ferrari World, with its F1 theme, providing a natural addition to the racing experience.
