History of the Singapore Grand Prix

The Singapore Grand Prix made its debut in 2008 as the first night race in Formula One history, held under 1,500 specially designed floodlights. The race later became infamous for the "Crashgate" scandal, in which Nelson Piquet Jr. deliberately crashed to help teammate Fernando Alonso win, marking the important role the race would play in deciding championship titles.

Lewis Hamilton holds the record for wins in Singapore with five, followed by Sebastian Vettel with four. The street circuit is known for its extreme physical challenge due to the humid heat, long race duration (often almost two hours), and frequent safety car interventions.

Marina Bay Street Circuit

The Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore is a spectacular street circuit, stretching over 5.063 kilometres and featuring 23 corners. The layout follows the streets around Marina Bay, resulting in a narrow race track with few run-off areas. This makes overtaking particularly difficult and any mistake can be punished immediately with a crash into the wall.

Singapore's Marina Bay Street Circuit is easily accessible for visitors, which is one of the strong points of this urban race.

Public transport in Singapore is very well developed and is the most efficient way to reach the circuit. The MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) has several stations that provide direct access to different parts of the circuit. The main stations are Promenade, Esplanade, City Hall and Bayfront. These stations are within walking distance of the various entrance gates to the circuit.

Singapore also has an excellent bus system serving the circuit, although the MRT is usually faster due to heavy traffic during race weekend.
