History of the British Grand Prix
In the early years the race alternated between Silverstone, Aintree and Brands Hatch, but since 1987 Silverstone has been the permanent home and has been on the F1 calendar continuously. The circuit itself was originally a World War II RAF airfield, the runways of which were converted into a race track.
The race has been on the verge of disappearing from the calendar several times due to financial problems, but has been saved each time by the importance of its history and its enormous popularity among fans.

Silverstone circuit
The Silverstone Circuit is one of the fastest and most challenging circuits on the Formula 1 calendar. At 5.891 kilometres long and with 18 corners, it offers a mix of high speeds, technical sections and various challenges for both drivers and teams.
The British weather often plays a big part in races at Silverstone. Sudden rain showers can change conditions quickly, making strategic decisions about tyres crucial. The open, flat terrain also creates windy conditions that can affect the balance of the cars.
The circuit is also known for its great atmosphere, with grandstands close to the action and fans camping out all weekend, creating a unique festival atmosphere.
About Silverstone
Outside of the big Formula 1 race, Silverstone hosts a variety of motorsport events throughout the year, including MotoGP, the World Endurance Championship, the British Touring Car Championship and several historic racing festivals. There is also a driving school where visitors can try their hand at the circuit.
The complex houses an interactive visitor centre "The Silverstone Experience" which highlights the rich history of the circuit and British motorsport. There are also conference facilities, hotels and a technical campus on site.
The Silverstone area is rural and peaceful, with picturesque English villages such as Silverstone Village, Towcester and Buckingham nearby. The contrast between the relative tranquility of the English countryside and the intensity of a Grand Prix weekend is characteristic of Silverstone's unique atmosphere.
During major racing events, the area is completely transformed, with temporary campsites, food festivals and concerts that turn the race into a multi-day experience that many fans see as a tradition.
