Azerbaijan Grand Prix
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is held on the Baku City Circuit, a street circuit in the heart of the capital Baku. The race was first held in 2016, originally under the name "European Grand Prix," but was given its current name in 2017.
The street circuit offers little room for error, with concrete walls right along the track. This has led to several safety car situations and red flags, which always keeps the race exciting until the last lap.
Baku itself is a fascinating mix of old and new, with a vibrant nightlife, luxury shopping and a rich cultural history for visitors to explore outside of the race. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will be held from 19 September to 21 September 2025.

In its short existence, the race has had several winners, including Hamilton, Bottas, Pérez, Ricciardo, Leclerc and Verstappen, underlining the unpredictability of the challenging street circuit.

Baku City Circuit
The Baku City Circuit is a 6km long, 20-turn street circuit that winds through the centre of Baku. Its unique character comes from its extreme contrasts: it has the longest straight on the F1 calendar (2.2km) where cars reach 350+ km/h, as well as ultra-narrow sections through the historic Old Town where the track is only 7.6 metres wide at some points.
The layout combines modern boulevards with the UNESCO World Heritage site of the old city. Technical challenges include the tight Turn 8 along the old city wall and the blind uphill Turn 15. The concrete walls run directly along the track with no run-off areas, meaning mistakes usually result in crashes.
The circuit offers excellent overtaking opportunities, especially at Turn 1 after the long straight, which contributes to its reputation for unpredictability and spectacle.
About Baku
Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, offers visitors a fascinating mix of old and new. The historic center is a labyrinth of narrow streets, old caravanserais, and ancient monuments surrounded by medieval walls. This area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands in stark contrast to the ultra-modern skyscrapers and futuristic architecture of the newer districts.
During the F1 weekend, the entire city comes to life with special events. Fan zones are set up on various squares where visitors can enjoy simulators, live music and F1-related activities. The luxury shopping streets and the long promenade along the coast are transformed into entertainment zones with performances by street artists and pop-up events.
The promenade along the Caspian Sea, which is partly part of the race track, offers a perfect place to relax between racing activities. Here you will find cozy cafes, fountains and even an area with small canals where you can take a boat trip.
In the evening, Baku's nightlife comes alive with special F1-themed parties in clubs and restaurants. The city is known for its hospitality and during the race weekend there are plenty of opportunities to sample local cuisine, with influences from Turkish, Persian and Russian cuisine.
